The PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ P7 Tire
In the 1970s, advances in performance cars suspension and chassis design allowed cars to keep more of its footprint on the road during cornering. The rise of the new generation of supercars created a need for a new kind of tire that could keep up with the high-performance demands of these vehicles. Pirelli was one of the leading manufacturers to meet this challenge with their introduction of the PIRELLI CINTURATO™ P7 tire in 1974.
The P7 was a game-changer, featuring an innovative internal design that enabled a much lower profile with a much wider footprint. This allowed for previously unattainable levels of performance when coupled with the high-end sports cars of the day, producing better straight-line acceleration, more grip when cornering, and more effective straight line braking. This breakthrough design set the standard for high-performance tires and helped cement Pirelli's reputation as a pioneering force in the tire industry.

225/50 YR 16 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ P7 Speed Rating
The 225/50 YR 16 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ P7 tire was known as 225/50 VR 16 PIRELLI CINTURATO P7 in the 1970s since the Y speed rating had not been created at that time. The letter V stood for a speed greater than 149 mph. Nowadays, tire marking would show the tire as 225/50 YR 16 (where Y indicates that the tire was tested for an hour continuously at a speed of 186 mph or 300 km/h). Nonetheless, to preserve the historical look of these tires, they are still made up as 225/50 VR 16 PIRELLI CINTURATO P7.
