1970s Performance Car Tires
The 1970s saw a new class of sports cars, that could be considered as the dawning of the supercar era, with a range of visually striking commerically available road legal cars that were capable of 0-60mph in under 6 seconds from carmakers including Lamborghini, Ferrari, Maserati, and De Tomaso. Road cars with this new level of performance required a new kind of tire that could handle the increased forces generated by these powerful new cars.
The 215/70 VR15 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ was launched in 1971, originally designed for the Lamborghini Muira P400S and SV. It is a large section tire, and it provides great traction and driving comfort.

Pirelli produces a limited number of CINTURATO ™ CN12 sizes. They also produce a 205/70 R 15 CINTURATO ™ CN12 and a low-profile 255/60 WR 15 CINTURATO ™ CN12 in addition to the 215/70VR15 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CN12.
The CN12 tread pattern was designed to be used on the new performance cars of the day, including the Lamborghini Miura P400S (which was capable of a whopping 171mph), Jarama and Urraco, as well as the Maserati Bora, and Jensen Interceptor Series 3, FF & R models. This tire and has a W speed rating of 170 mph.
This superb 1968 Maserati Ghibli was originally equipped with 205/70VR15 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CN12 tires. However in this picture it fits the 215/70VR15 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CN12 that was fitted to the Ghibli in 1972.
