The 225/65 R 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P5

The P5, along with the "racing" P7 and "sporting" P6, completed Pirelli's "Serie Larga" series of broad, ultra-low-profile tires in the 1970s.

The Pirelli P5 was introduced in 1977. The P5 was created in collaboration with Jaguar to accommodate the XJ6, XJC, XJ12, and XJ40. The P5 was created with the intention of achieving high levels of comfort and performance while allowing for a nice quiet ride.

PIRELLI P5 & Jaguar

The 225/65 R 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P5 was the original equipment tire on the Jaguar XJ40 with 15" wheels. Jaguar has a positive opinion of Pirelli's tires and the two firms enjoy a good working relationship, as such they are frequently used as original equipment tires, and homologated to the cars for which they were designed.

Jaguar ordered the P5 from PIRELLI in 1977 to equip their premium vehicles. PIRELLI currently manufactures the 205/70 R 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P5 for the XJS and XJ6, the 215/70 R 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P5 for the XJ V12, and the 225/65 R 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P5 for the Jaguar XJ40.

In 1979 the PIRELLI P5 became the officially homologated tire in the 205/70 R 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P5 on Jaguars XJ6, XJ12, and XJS, followed by the 225/65 R 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P5 for the XJ40 once fitted with 15" wheels.

The 225/65 R 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P5 is also fitted to equivalent Daimler models; in this size the Daimler 3.2 & 4.0 Saloons from 1990 can fit this tire.

The 225/65 WR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P5 is once again being made today. It was designated as Z graded during its original time period (149 mph). The 225/65 WR 15 P5 manufactured today has a higher speed rating of W, rated for speeds of up to 168 mph.

PIRELLI CINTURATO P5 Legacy

The Pirelli P5 tire was used as the official tire for the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. Pirelli was chosen as the official tire supplier for the event, and the P5 was selected as the tire model for the Olympic shuttle bus fleet. Pirelli's partnership with the Olympics continued for several years, with the company supplying tires for the shuttle bus fleets at subsequent Olympic Games.
